Ahh, Novembe.. I love the fall. I really love Thanksgiving. I've hosted the family dinner for a solid 12 years now. By tomorrow, I will be officially sick of the leftovers.
Also, I love shopping for shares of quality companies that pay healthy dividends and tend to grow them.
I initiated a position in Associated Banc-Corp (ASB). they're a Green Bay, based bank that's the largest bank based in Wisconsin. They easily pass my stock screener and I've been looking forward to having them in my portfolio for the past few months. I particularly like the 12% clip of growth over the past 5 years with lots of room to spare.
This month was a bit different than most months this year. It's due to the ongoing brokerage war. Fidelity no longer charges for trades.
No fee trades allowed me to buy small amounts of shares instead of accumulating a large chunk of cash to avoid any hit on my cost basis with the fee. I used to wait until I had about $1,500 or so to make a purchase.
Now that there are no fees, I made a few purchases that I would normally not have done.
A good example of that is WhiteHorse Finance (WHF). I already have way way over what I consider a full position ($4,000 cost basis), but I could not resist picking up a small amount with the spare change I had in my account. Their price is quite low, and have been holding real steady over the past few years in regards to maintaining their equity price as well as their hefty dividend.
Another small purchase I made was adding a few shares of Tanger Factory Outlet Centers (SKT). another share that pays out a fat dividend ad are out a real discounted price. Their long term viability in maintaining this big dividend my be questionable, but it's just a $63 dollar investment in a 9.9% dividend. Sure. Why not.
Here's the breakdown...
These purchases added $36.86 to my annual dividend haul.
